2nd Grade News
June 7, 2017
Curriculum Corner:
Kids have completed their work with persuasive reading/writing. They finished this work by comparing and contrasting articles that were persuasive, writing questions about the articles, naming the author's purpose and identifying the main idea.
We have almost finished our last writing project. Kids have been working collaboratively to write persuasive essays on topics that mean a lot to them. They picked topics that they'd like to see action or change on in the world. Everything from world peace to better food quality was written about. They will be presenting their letters to an audience of their choice from within the school building and will be given the option to take the letter home and mail it to an appropriate recipient as well. Next we will write time capsule letters to ourselves and letters to the 3rd grade teachers.
In science we have been comparing and contrasting insects and spiders by learning about how to classify each creature. We also have learned the names of the body parts for insects and spiders. Next week we will be spending some time building and creating with a variety of materials that all relate back to the science units we have learned about this year. We also had the chance to go inside the mobile planetarium last Friday thanks to a presentation by the Stargazers of Jackson. We will also be learning about the snow leopard in a special presentation tomorrow afternoon from a visiting expert.
Math has been a lot of fun this week as we are extending our learning on multiplication and arrays through Lego Math. Kids are still continuing to use Dreambox as well. Please see the newsletter attached to the email regarding how and why to keep kids using Dreambox throughout the summer to prevent summer loss.
Important Dates:
June 9 - Talent Show at 2:10 *This is going to be a show you won't want to miss! Kids have chosen "costumes" to wear for our performance. They are in charge of their costumes (camo, beach, fairy tale, or athlete), but if you could remind them and/or touch base about their costume with them it would be greatly appreciated!
June 12 - Field Trip all day to Taggart Lake (approx 9am-2pm)
June 14 - Field Day 12:45-2:45
June 16 - Last Day, Early Release at 1:05
